How the Australian Pay Calculator works

This free calculator estimates your take-home pay for the 2025โ€“26 Australian financial year (1 July 2025 โ€“ 30 June 2026). Enter your salary as an annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly, daily or hourly figure and it breaks down income tax (PAYG), the Medicare levy, superannuation and any HECS/HELP study-loan repayment across every pay cycle.

Income tax brackets (residents, 2025โ€“26)

Medicare levy & surcharge

Most residents pay a 2% Medicare levy on taxable income, with a reduction for low-income earners. If your income is above the singles threshold ($101,000 in 2025โ€“26) and you don't hold private hospital cover, the Medicare Levy Surcharge of 1%โ€“1.5% also applies โ€” toggle Private Health to see the difference.

Superannuation & salary sacrifice

The Superannuation Guarantee is 12% for 2025โ€“26, paid by your employer on top of your salary. Salary sacrificing into super reduces your taxable income (and therefore your tax), though sacrificed amounts are taxed at 15% inside the fund and still count toward your HECS/HELP and Medicare surcharge income.

HECS/HELP repayments

From 2025โ€“26, study and training loans use a marginal repayment system: you repay nothing below $67,000, then 15c per dollar between $67,000 and $125,000, and more above that โ€” so a pay rise no longer pushes your whole income into a higher repayment rate.
